Google Labs replaces Google Page Creator with Google Sites

I was just shocked to hear this news that Google sites has replaced Page Creator last week when i singned in to my account with google pages to update my site. Google pages was just a boon to people like me who want to own a website without paying anything. It says that no further signups are allowed but existing users can have the service till the year end after which the pages would tranfer to the new one.
The major cause for people like me is that , when converting from the old one to the new domain my page rank and all links to my page would be broken .This is just a nasty blow for people who have spent a lot of time in developing taffic to the site.

One more big miss for Existing Page Creator users is that google sites does not have the feature of uploading html pages! but has inbuilt wiki.
